Patient Evaluation and Management Women with pelvic symptoms and suspected or previously diagnosed endometriosis may call our clinical office for an appointment for consultation by ISTE clinical staff. Medical records including the results of previous diagnostic tests, surgical reports, Laparoscopic photos and videos should be forwarded to us and be available at the time of consultation. Considering that endometriosis typically involves pelvic and extra pelvic organs, ISTE's philosophy favors a multidisciplinary approach and specialists other than reproductive endocrinologists may be involved in consultation. After complete evaluation, consultants' findings and recommendations, including advantages and disadvantages of alternative approaches to the management will be discussed with the patient and forwarded to the patient's physician. If the patient chooses to do so, she may transfer her subsequent management to our office. Clinical Philosophy Because none of the currently available therapeutic approaches in endometriosis alters basic pathophysiological mechanisms, none is curative and none is uniformly effective. Each treatment method offers specific advantages and disadvantages. Surgical and medical options should be considered in each case and both the patient and her physician should carefully evaluate specific indications and contraindications as well as weigh the risks and benefits of each option.
