Nasir Rana, M.D., has devoted more than 30 years of his professional life to academic medicine and the clinical practice Reproductive Health Care for Women. Dr. Rana is one of the Founding Partners of Reproductive Medicine Institute. He is board certified in both Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (REI) and Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN). He also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) with emphasis on Women’s Health Care.
Dr. Rana received his medical education from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, from which he graduated with a Medical Degree in 1969. In 1974, he completed his internship and residency training in obstetrics and gynecology at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr Rana did his post-graduate research fellowship and training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke's Medical Center/Rush Medical University.
Dr. Rana was awarded a Certificate of Special Competence in the field of advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgical procedures by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists. Dr Rana is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and American College of Surgeons.
Together, Dr. Rana and his longtime associate Dr. Paul Dmowski established the not for profit Institute for the Study and Treatment of Endometriosis where a multidisciplinary approach is followed for both treatment and research. At the Institute, Drs. Rana and Dmowski combine a medical and surgical approach to optimize treatment for this chronic debilitating disease which affects women during their reproductive years.
Dr. Rana’s practice philosophy always has been to provide a state of the art, comprehensive but individualized reproductive health care with compassion. He encourages and expects his patient’s active involvement in selecting available or recommended treatment options that will lead to successful outcome in shortest possible time. For couples or individuals for whom Invitro Fertilization (IVF) is not acceptable due to religious or personal reasons, Dr Rana is able to provide corrective surgery for fertility enhancement and/or the GIFT (Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer) procedure as alternative treatment options.
Over the years, Dr. Rana has lectured extensively on issues dealing with women's health within the Unites States and overseas particularly in Europe, China, South America and South East Asia. He and his colleagues have organized and participated in several national and international seminars and workshops on endometriosis, infertility, and advanced laparoscopic fertility preservation and enhancement surgeries. Dr. Rana is the author or co-author of more than 75 scientific articles published in peer-review journals.
Dr. Rana is on staff at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst, Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, the Oak Brook Medical & Surgical Center in Oak Brook, and the 900 North Michigan Avenue Surgical Center in Chicago. After a long and honorable military career, Dr. Rana retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve with a rating of Chief Flight Surgeon with more than 800 military flying hours. He is a veteran of the first Gulf war, recipient of several military awards and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dr Rana is fully conversant in Urdu and Hindi.
